Why AV1? 
Simple no brainer. Less file size for same bitrate as HEVC encode. If u have a machine that is modern and isn't legacy, you should be able to run it. Works best with VLC, MPC-HC, MPV, Jellyfin. (Plex won't be able to play AV1 files yet as of 11/19/2022).
Why Opus? :
In my opinion this is a great codec to use for audio encoding. Amazing audio quality from my testing, and it meets my bar for file size to quality ratio to where it is worth encoding it in more than something like AAC or AC3. Also compatibility seems to be great too.

What is VMAF? 
A metric from Netflix that supposedly calculates how bearable the compression is compared to the source. The score is out of 100, 100 being the source and 0 being a completely distorted compression. Anything over 94 is apparently considered visually not perceivable by the end user (This is debatable so take that what you will)
Comparison to HEVC 
I grabbed a Vyndros HEVC encode and ran VMAF against the source to compare against my AV1 encode. Since these VMAF calculations take time, I only compared S01E02 (smallest file size in AV1 encode).
HEVC encode = 94.45 -> 1.3 GB
AV1 encode = 94.81 -> 757 MB
Once you take into account the actual file size difference, you are getting better-to-same quality with drastically smaller file size.
Notes :
- Extras were encoded using --cq-level=28
- The scene should start embracing this new codec since it is completely open-source and browser compatible. I made this release to help spread the word and power of AV1. Granted the encode time is longer, the amount of file size savings you get is worth it in the end.
